Description: Although available for nearly 20 years, data from smart infusion devices is one of the most underutilized data sources in healthcare. This session will focus on the impact and value that can be derived from this source of data. We will discuss the leveraging of dose error reducing software (DERS), trends in alerts, and the impact from smart pump nuisance alerts and alarms. Using data from over 53,000 infusion devices, we will explore how healthcare organizations can impact workflow and safety by analyzing these trends, targeting education and adjusting dose error reducing software (DERS).
Learning Objectives:
-
- Review the complexity of the medication delivery and administration process in hospitals.
- Explain dose error reduction software (DERS) and the different alert types from smart infusion pumps.
- Analyze clinical alert trends identified across an infusion pump network of over 53,000 infusion devices.
- Evaluate the impact of clinical decision support interventions on reducing alert fatigue.
